SIWI and SDG Academy online course on Water: Addressing the Global Crisis completed

  SIWI and SDG Academy online course from the world’s leading experts on Water: Addressing the Global Crisis completed HPA Director Dursun Yıldız also followed and  successfully completed the course. 5 April 2019 The SDG Academy and the Stockholm International Water Institute have come together to offer this MOOC on some of the most important water issues. They focused on the key role water plays in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, not least SDG 6, about sustainable water and sanitation for all. These courses cover the headline issues and a multitude of interdisciplinary topics related to the17 Sustainable Development Goals, a set of aims and targets adopted by member states of the United Nations in 2015. Last course on “Water: Addressing the Global Crisis” has recently  completed. The Course titled” Water: Addressing the Global Crisis” was a course of study offered by SDGAcademyX, an online learning initiative of SDG Academy through edX. The course aimed to build theoretical knowledge as well as provide exposure to concrete practices from around the world through a series of case studies related to good water governance. It deals with issues of water and sanitation services, the role of ecosystems, the impact of climate change, the role of water for food and energy production, as well as shared water resources as a source of conflicts and cooperation. The course intended to explain the linkages between water, environment, and societal development, focusing on how to tackle issues such as growing water uncertainty and deteriorating water quality. During the course ;
  • The scale, scope, and challenges in achieving the SDG 6, safe access to water for all.
  • The issues of climate change and its influence on water.
  • Water and sanitation for health.
  • The food, energy and water nexus.
  • The environmental, economic and social dimensions of SDG 6 and the critical role of water governance.
  • The transboundary cooperation needed to achieve the goal on water.
  • Lessons from concrete practices around the world through a series of case studies   were discussed in details.
 
  •  In the course 3-5 hours per week is needed  if participants  go through all lectures and engagement activities. Watching the video lectures and completing the quizzes is approx. 2 hours every week.
The course run from January 14th, 2019 through April 1st, 2019. In discussion forum and  Live Q&A sessions of the course ,more than 150 participant  were linked to the sessions from different countries . Students who successfully completed the course received a digital  Verified Certificate signed by the course instructors. In order to successfully complete the course, students must score an average of 70% or higher on the graded components of the course. .Like some of  other participants ,HPA Director Dursun Yıldız participated  and received a passing grade in the Course.
