A technical cooperation project titled “Strengthening adaptation of Aquaculture and Culture-based Fisheries to Climate Change” was conducted between 2013 and 2015 with the participation of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The project generated a regional action plan for managing climate change related risks in aquaculture and culture-based fisheries in the Region. The plan however has not yet been realized.

This workshop has been formulated under the new project titled “Capacity Development for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Management in Central Asia (FISHCap, developed under the FAO-Turkey Partnership Program on Food and Agriculture (FTPP II) funded by the Government of the Republic of Turkey and implemented by FAO.
The workshop was originally scheduled to be held on 30-31 March 2020 in Istanbul, Turkey; however, it had to be postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual workshop is intended to be a revised more compact version of the original event.
