DARBANDIKHAN – The head of the Darbandikhan Dam, Rahman Khani said on Monday (November 13) that the earthquake that struck the Kurdistan region did not cause any damage or water leakage to the dam but cracks were spotted in the upper part of the construction.  The 7.2 magnitude quake left many vertical and horizontal cracks in the upper part of the 55-year old dam, one of which is about 450 meters long, Khani told NRT. The damage occurred to the dam is being assessed by a specialized team to begin repairs, he added. The part of the dam where water is being stored needs to be considered closely.
